Blairhall, Fife born right or left half Joe McLaughlin could also play inside forward, and joined Aberdeen from Hamilton Academical in 1946 already aged 27 having lost much of his early career to the Second World War. He made his debut in a win at Falkirk that October and was part of Aberdeen’s successful and glorious 1947 Scottish Cup winning team (playing right half), when they defeated Hibernian 2-1 at Hampden Park to win the Cup for the first time in the club’s history. Never assured of a regular place at Pittodrie, he joined Raith Rovers in September 1949 after 69 matches. His career thereafter is uncertain.
