Description

Southall, Middlesex born inside left Albert Thain started his football career with local junior club Southall in 1920, playing for Metropolitan Railway in 1921 before joining First Division club Chelsea in 1922, for whom he made his Football League debut at Oldham Athletic in September 1922. After three seasons as a fringe player, during which time Chelsea were relegated to the Second Division, he established his place in the Chelsea first team in August 1925, scoring 16 goals in 1925-26 and 19 goals in 1926-27 as Chelsea had a series of top four finishes without gaining promotion.

He lost his regular place in the Chelsea starting line up in April 1929 and only played twice more in 1929-30 before joining Third Division (South) club Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in 1931 after 50 goals in 153 appearances for The Pensioners. He scored 6 goals in 21 appearances for The Cherries but lost his place after Christmas, having a single season at Dean Court in 1931-32 before retiring from the professional game.
