Description

Hendon, London born right back Syd Sweetman began his football career with Hampstead Town in 1924 and soon attracted the attention of Third Division (South) Queen’s Park Rangers, for whom he made his Football League debut at Merthyr Town in February 1925. He was an infrequent performer in the Rangers first eleven for three seasons, making 16 to 18 appearances per season, until 1928-29, when he played in all of their 43 matches across the campaign, and he was signed by Second Division Millwall in the summer of 1929 after 102 appearances for The R’s.

At The Den he scored his only career goal in a 2-0 win over Bristol City in October 1930, a season where he missed only one match, and he was eventually released after five seasons when Millwall were relegated in 1934, having made 128 appearances for The Lions.
