Description

Glasgow born inside forward Jimmy Argue began his football career with Scottish junior club St Roch’s  before joining the books of Birmingham City in December 1931, where he stayed for a year and a half without making their first eleven. He joined First Division Chelsea in May 1933 and made his Football League debut against Manchester City that December in a 2-1 home defeat, his only appearance of the season. He established himself as a regular member of the Chelsea line up from November 1934, and by the time the Second World War arrived leading to the abandonment of peacetime football in September 1939, he had scored 34 goals in 125 games for The Pensioners.

After the Second World War, he was only one of two players, the other being Dick Spence, to return to Stamford Bridge at the resumption, and Argue’s return was the briefest, scoring in a 4-7 defeat at eventual Champions Liverpool in September 1946, his only post war first team appearance before he joined non league Shrewsbury Town in 1947.
