Description

Paisley, Renfrwshire born centre half Hugh Stevenson began his football career with Maryhill in 1906 before joining First Division Blackburn Rovers for whom he made his Football League debut at Woolwich Arsenal in March 1907, one of a pair of appearances he made before the end of the 1906-07 season. The following season he played more than half or Blackburn’s games being a regular from the end of November through to April, however he returned to the fringes of the Rovers first team for the 1908-09 and 1909-10 seasons, making only a handful of appearances in each.

He returned to the Rovers first team in September 1910, having two spells of regular inclusion in the 1910-11 season, but didn’t play in their FA Cup semi final side that lost 3-0 to eventual winners Bradford City at Bramall Lane, and he left the club in the 1911 close season after 3 goals in 61 appearances to join non league Great Harwood. In June 1912 he signed for hometown club St Mirren and scored 4 goals in 38 appearances over the following two seasons before leaving the club in 1914.
