Description

Chatham, Kent born right back Jim “Jock” Robertson began his football career with Chatham Central from where he signed for Southern League club Gillingham in November 1919, and when the following year Gillingham joined the Third Division, Robertson made his Football League debut in their inaugural League match against Southampton in August 1920, missing only one match during their maiden League campaign. Robertson was to prove a stalwart for the club, playing for them over fourteen seasons,

He was an ever present during Gillingham’s 1925-26 campaign, when they finished tenth in the division, but he lost his regular place in October 1930 and played only 3 further matches during 1931-32 and 1932-33, his final match coming at Watford in October 1932. Having scored once for The Gills, a penalty in a defeat at Merthyr Town in March 1928, in 388 appearances for Gillingham, he joined non league Canterbury Waverley in 1933, his final known club before his eventual retirement.
