Description

Dunston-on-Tyne, County Durham born outside right Jack Tatton started his football career in 1910 with hometown junior club Dunston Atlas Villa from where he joined Newcastle United as an amateur spending 1911-12 at St James’ Park without making their first eleven. He joined Southern League club Gillingham in 1913 but his career was then interrupted by onset of the First World War which forced the suspension of peacetime football in May 1915.

After the War he joined First Division club Preston North End and made his Football League debut in the derby at Blackburn Rovers in August 1919, staying less than a single season at Deepdale, making 18 appearances, scoring once in a win over Aston Villa before transferring to fellow First Division club Oldham Athletic in February 1920.  He had three seasons at Oldham scoring twice in 70 appearances for The Latics, but his career was most probably ended by injury as he abruptly lost his place in the team in February 1922.
