Description

Derry born outside left Paddy Quigley began his football career with hometown junior club Londonderry Distillery, where he gained Ireland junior international honours. He joined the professional ranks with Glentoran in 1920, from where he was signed by Third Division (North) club Accrington Stanley in the summer of 1921, making his Football League debut against Chesterfield that September. Quigley scored once in 12 matches for Stanley before joining non league Rossendale United in 1922, returning to Stanley after the 1922-23 season to score a further 4 goals in 30 matches for Stanley in their 1923-24 campaign, when he played all across the front line.

In 1924 he was signed by First Division club Preston North End and spent the first months of 1924-25 at Deepdale without making The Lambs’ first eleven, before returning to Rossendale United later in 1924. He moved on to Chorley in 1925 and played for Darwen in 1928, his last recorded club before his eventual retirement.

NB in the photograph he wears his Ireland junior international shirt.
