Description

Gourock, Renfrewshire born inside left John Jones began his football career with Morton Juniors in 1935, from where he was signed by Scottish League club Third Lanark. Jones’ career was initially heavily affected by the outbreak of the Second World War, and he scored 30 goals in 67 matches for The Warriors both sides of the conflict. In September 1946 he went to Bradford City as a trialist, making his Football League debut at Stockport County at the end of September and scoring a week later in his only other appearance, a win over Wrexham, but he returned to Scotland and signed for Morton in 1947, later the same year joining Cowdenbeath for a season.

In 1948 he joined Stirling Albion where he scored 12 goals in 23 matches before a move to St Mirren in March 1950, where he scored once in 7 matches before a move to Kilmarnock in September 1950. At Killie he rattled in 10 goals in only 15 matches before the season end, when he retired from professional football.
