Description

Airdrie, Lanarkshire born right back Andy “Tiger” Anderson signed for Heart of Midlothian in 1929 from Baillieston JuniorsĀ and made his Hearts debut in January 1930 in a Scottish Cup tie against Clydebank at Tynecastle. Over the next nine years until the outbreak of the Second World War cut short his career in September 1939, he played 383 games for Hearts although he never scored.

He is theĀ third most capped Hearts Scottish player winning 23 caps for Scotland between 1933, when he made his international debut in a 1-0 win over England in front of 134,700 spectators at Hampden Park, Glasgow in April 1933 and December 1938 when he played in a win over Hungary, captaining his country in his final two internationals, and he also played 4 times for The Scottish League between 1934 and 1936.

Anderson’s brother-in-law Jock White, also an Airdrie man, played for Hearts and Scotland several years before Anderson. White returned to Hearts from Leeds United in 1930 and the two played together for four seasons.
