Percy Main, North Shields, Northumberland born right half Billy Hind played junior football for Willington Athletic, joining newly elected Second Division club Fulham in 1907, for whom he made his Football League debut at Clapton Orient in October 1907. Hind played in 2 further matches for The Cottagers in March 1908, but in the 1908 close season he transferred to Clapton Orient, and in his first season with The O’s he missed only one match.
He was a mainstay in their two fourth place finishes in 1910-11 and 1911-12, in the latter of which he was an ever present, and he continued to play for Clapton Orient through to the suspension of peacetime football due to the onset of the First World War, although from 1913-14 he increasingly played at right back.
During the War he served as a gunner in the British Army, but after the War he returned to Millfields Road, and played 9 matches in the late summer and autumn of 1919 in Orient’s first post war League campaign. After 7 goals in 204 appearances for Clapton Orient, Hind joined Welsh Southern League club Ton Pentre in 1920. After his retirement as a player, Hind served Ton Pentre as trainer and later returned to Clapton Orient as assistant trainer.
