Born in Larkhall, Lanarkshire, he played centre half for Clyde from the mid 1920’s. He was the son of Glasgow Rangers Scottish international Neilly Gibson, considered by some the best Scottish player of his generation, and the brother of professional footballers Jimmy, who played for Partick Thistle, Aston Villa and Scotland, and Willie, who played for Ayr United and Newcastle United, winning the FA Cup with Newcastle in 1924.
