Description

Chasetown, Staffordshire born left back George Lewis began his senior football career with Second Division side Walsall Town Swifts making his Football League debut at Darwen in December 1894. When they failed in their bid for re-election  at the season end, he evidently stayed at the club that was then re-elected to the Second Division in 1896 as Walsall, Lewis scoring once, in a defeat to Newton Heath (now Manchester United) in September 1896) in 35 matches for the combined Walsall teams before joining Southern League club Wellingborough in early 1897.

He transferred to First Division club Notts County at the end of 1897, making his debut in early 1898, and was a mainstay of their team that finished third in the League Championship in 1901, eventually transferring to Second Division club Bristol City in the 1902 close season after 2 goals in 137 matches for The Magpies. He stayed a single season at Ashton Gate, scoring once in 33 matches, before joining non league Stourbridge in 1903. He returned to Football League action with Leicester Fosse in October 1903 where he played in 15 matches for The Fossils before returning to Stourbridge where he finished his career.
