Hull born inside forward Thomas Eccles joined his home town professional club from Hargreaves (Hull) in 1921, scoring on his Second Division debut in May 1922 at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the last game of the 1921-22 season. He started the first three matches of the 1922-23 season scoring his second goal in his fourth appearance against Bury but lost his place and didn’t return to the first team until December. He stayed in the team until January playing 5 further matches without scoring before losing his place again, and his 2 goals in 9 appearances would be the extent of his professional football career as he signed for non league Bridlington Town later in 1923.
