Bellshill, Lanarkshire born left back James Bulloch joined Hamilton Academical in 1930 from junior club Law Scotia, where he was originally a wing half before switching position, becoming The Accied’ club captain, leading them in their giant killing cup run to the 1935 Scottish Cup Final which they lost 2-1 to Rangers in front of 88,000 spectators at Hampden Park.
Described at the time as “one of the most whole hearted players in a very fine team… he is a strong well built left back with good positional sense, and in addition he is very fast. He is a young man to be captain but has the right temperament for the responsibility”, he continued to play throughout the 1930’s however the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939 effectively curtailed his career.
