Bellshill born full back James Bulloch joined Hamilton Academical in 1930 from junior club Law Scotia, where he was originally a wing half before switching position, becoming club captain and leading them in the 1935 Scottish Cup Final which they lost 2-1 to Rangers. Described at the time as “one of the most whole hearted players in a very fine team… he is a strong well built left back with good positional sense, and in addition he is very fast. He is a young man to be captain but has the right temperament for the responsibility.”
