The brother of England international Fred Geary, Hyson Green, Nottingham born winger George Geary began his football career with Notts Rangers in 1892 and joined First Division Nottingham Forest in August 1893, making his Football League debut at Aston Villa in April 1894. Largely a fringe player he scored twice in 7 first team appearances for Forest before joining non league Long Eaton Rangers later in 1895. He returned to Football League action joining Chesterfield Town in May 1899, their first Football League season, and he played in their inaugural Football League fixture at Sheffield Wednesday. In his 3 seasons at Saltergate he scored 16 goals in 70 appearances.
