Description

Rotherham born wing half Jimmy Broadhead had started with his local club Rotherham County in 1913 but the interruption of the First World War took away much of his early career. In 1919 he signed for Southern League Norwich City where he stayed a year before moving to South Shields in May 1920, for whom he didn’t make a first team appearance, and later that year he joined Midland League Scunthorpe United.

In May 1922 he signed for Third Division (North) Nelson and made his League debut at Bradford Park Avenue that August, playing 38 times during the campaign as Nelson won the Third Division (North) Championship, although they were immediately relegated the next season. After four seasons at Nelson, scoring once in 68 appearances, he went into non league football with Barnoldswick Town in 1926, however he returned to Nelson to make one further appearance in October 1927, again at Bradford Park Avenue, before joining Horwich RMI in 1928 later joining Morecambe in 1930 before his eventual retirement.
