Handsworth, Birmingham born wing half (who could play both sides) Sam Morris began his football career with Perry Bar and spent two seasons on the books at Aston Villa without making their first eleven. He moved to Southern League club Queens Park Rangers in 1908, scoring twice in 40 matches over the next three seasons, before returning to his hometown in May 1911 to join Birmingham for a brief spell, without making a first team appearance.
Morris moved to Southern League club Bristol Rovers later in 1911 where he played both sides of the First World War, during which he served as a sergeant in the Middlesex Regiment’s Football Battalion and played a handful of wartime league matches for both Clapton Orient in 1916-17 and Brentford in 1917. After the War he signed for Southern League club Brentford in 1919, and when they joined The Football League in the summer of 1920,
Morris made his Football League debut at Norwich City in October 1920, already aged 34. Morris had a single season of League football for Brentford, making 27 appearances in addition to his 36 Southern League matches for The Bees, joining Kent League club Maidstone United in 1921. He later played for Ramsgate in 1923 and Margate in 1924 before his retirement.
