Description

Salford, Lancashire born right back Jack Fowler began his football career with Droylsden from where he was signed by Second Division club Bradford City, for whom he made his Football League debut against Preston North End in February 1927, making two further appearances for The Bantams before the season end, which saw City relegated. Fowler made 11 further appearances in December and January of the following season, before joining Third Division (South) club Torquay United for their second season of League football in the 1928 close season.

Fowler immediately established himself in The Gulls’ line up and had six seasons at Plainmoor, being ever present in their 1931-32 campaign, in a season when he scored his only goal from outfield play in a 4-1 victory over Northampton Town in December 1931. On penalty duty, he scored 7 other penalties that season and one the following season, but in September 1932, possibly through injury, he lost his regular place in Torquay’s line up. He played 4 more matches that season in January 1933 and returned to Torquay’s line up on a regular basis from the start of the next season in August 1933, however his career came to an abrupt halt, probably through injury, in March 1934 after 190 appearances for Torquay United, having scored 11 goals, 10 of which were penalties.
