Description

Liverpool born inside forward Freddie Haycock played for Irish League Waterford from 1928 to 1932 before returning to Merseyside to play for Prescot Cables in 1932. He joined First Division Aston Villa in February 1934 but had to wait until December 1936 for his Football League debut, which came in a Second Division match against Norwich City at Villa Park. From then on until the suspension of peacetime football due to the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939 he was a regular in the Aston Villa first eleven, scoring 17 goals in their 1937-38 campaign which saw them win the Second Division Championship, and 12 goals the following season on their return to the top flight.

In total he scored 33 goals in 111 appearances for Villa but the Second World War severely disrupted his career, and  after the War he signed for Wrexham in December 1945, where he scored once in 8 appearances before returning to The Midlands to join non league Hednesford Town late in 1946, joining Stourbridge in 1947 and playing for Sutton Coldfield Town in 1952 before retirement.
