Description

Codnor, Derbyshire born wing half Jack Poole played for Sutton United in 1912 and Sutton Junction in 1913 before joining Nottingham Forest in 1914, spending 1914-15 on their books without ever playing for their first team, before World War One interrupted his career. On the resumption of peacetime football he signed for First Division Sunderland, making his Football League debut against Aston Villa in August 1919. He scored twice in 152 Sunderland appearances over the first five peacetime seasons, playing 37 League games as they finished runners up in the League Championship to Liverpool in 1922-23.

However he lost his place in 1923-24 and joined Bradford City in the summer of 1924, where he became club captain, being an ever present during his first 2 seasons with the club. He made 101 appearances for The Bantams before retiring in 1928. He became Bradford City’s trainer before being appointed manager of Mansfield Town in January 1938 and he held the position through most of the Second World War until leaving the post in August 1944.
