Clapton, London born wing half Herbert Willis began his football career with Clapton Warwick in 1907 from where he signed for Second Division Clapton Orient, making his Football League debut at Stockport County in October 1908. He established himself as a regular in The O’s first eleven from September 1910 and played 38 games each campaign as they finished fourth in the Second Division in successive seasons in 1910-11 and 1911-12. He scored his only career goal in a 4-1 win over Leicester Fosse at Millfields Road in September 1911, however he lost his place in the first team in February 1914 and transferred to non league Maidstone United in 1914, his career being ended by the advent of the First World War.
