Description

Lyndhurst, Hampshire born centre half Jimmy Wilde signed for Crystal Palace on 17th November 1928, after leaving the Army, where he had served with The Royal Tank Corps. He made his Palace debut a week later in an FA Cup tie first round win over Kettering Town at Selhurst Park and his Football League debut followed on 1st December in a 2-0 home win over Merthyr Town.

Having established himself as a first team regular, he spent eight seasons as a mainstay of the side, being ever present in 1934-35 and missing one match the following season. He was twice a member of Palace teams that finished runners up in the Third Division (South) in 1928-29 and 1930-31, but he lost his place at the start of the 1936-37 season and played only 3 more times for Palace, retiring in 1937 after 6 goals in 297 appearances for the club.
