Description

Chopwell, County Durham born inside forward Bill Harvey played junior football for Chopwell Institute in 1926 and joined Annfield Plain in 1927, and Eden Colliery Welfare in 1928 before signing for Second Division club Barnsley in 1929, making his Football League debut against Stoke City that December. He had three seasons at Oakwell, scoring 14 goals in 45 appearances, but left them after their relegation in 1932, re-joining Eden Colliery Welfare in the close season.

Harvey returned to Football League action three years later with Chesterfield, joining them in the 1935 close season, and scoring 5 goals in 18 appearances for The Spireites, including a hat-trick against Stockport County in March 1936 as they won the Third Division (North) Championship. He joined non league Boston United in the summer of 1936, but again returned to League action with Darlington in 1938, scoring 7 goals in 14 appearances during 1938-39 before joining non league Stockton in 1939.
