“Last season (1930-31) this young centre forward was assisting Chapeltown in the Sheffield Junior League and scored 70 goals. One of the Sheffield senior clubs actually asked him to sign a professional form the day before he fixed up with Derby, on 11th June 1931. But for the fact that the Derby manager George Jobey had been in previous communication with him he would have become a Sheffield player. 18 1/2 years old, 5 foot 9 inches, 10.5 stone.” – Entry in the 1931-32 Nottingham Post Football Guide for HC Wadsworth, unfortunately he didn’t make it as a professional footballer and never made the Derby County first eleven, no shame in that as they were one of the best teams in the country. However he never appeared for another Football League club and what became of him is a matter of uncertainty. All help welcomed!
