A half back, H Vickers went on the Corinthians Tour to South Africa in 1897 and played for them for several seasons in the late Victorian and early Edwardian eras. He is recorded on the Hungarian Tour of 1904, as well as playing in France and Sweden the same year, and in Germany and Holland in 1906. He was also part of The Corinthians’ team that surprisingly beat Aston Villa 2-1 to win the Sheriff of London’s Charity Shield at The Crystal Palace in November 1899, also playing against them in the Shield match in March 1901 when Aston Villa won 1-0. He also played in the Shield matches against Tottenham Hotspur in March 1902, Sunderland in February 1903, both of which ended in defeats, and a sensational 10-3 victory over Bury in March 1904. His final Shield appearance came in April 1905 when The Corinthians were defeated 2-1 by Sheffield Wednesday.
