Newcastle born centre forward Jack Taylor had played junior football for Christ Church in 1919, Jarrow in 1920 and St Peter’s Albion in 1921 before joining Third Division (South) club Bristol Rovers in 1922, but he had to wait until February 1924 to make his Football League debut which came at Merthyr Town. He scored the following month in his third game in a 3-1 away win at Charlton Athletic, but played only twice more and moved back to the north east with non league Leadgate Park later in 1924 after only 5 League appearances.
