One of three brothers, the others Danny and Alex Steel, all of whom played for Tottenham Hotspur in the same team on 29th January 1910 in a 0-0 draw at home to Bradford City (perhaps a record for English League football?), Newmilns, Ayrshire born inside left Bobby Steel was the youngest of the Steel brothers and joined Second Division Tottenham from Port Glasgow Athletic in 1908. He had played junior football for Newmilns in 1904 and Kilwinning in 1905 before a spell at Morton in 1905 prior to Port Glasgow. He made his Football League debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers in September 1908 and scored 14 goals in his debut season, helping them to promotion as Second Division runners up come the season end, and playing 7 seasons for Spurs before the First World War interrupted his career after 46 goals in 246 appearances. After the War he joined Gillingham in 1919 before retiring from football.
