Gillingham, Kent born centre half Horace Rowden began his football career after the First World War with Chatham Central, from where he signed for hometown Third Division (South) club Gillingham in August 1920, making his Football League debut against Northampton Town on Boxing Day 1921. Always a predominantly reserve team player during his spell at Priestfield, he made 2 further appearances in his breakthrough season, both coming in the week before New Year, but played just once in 1922-23 and 5 times in 1923-24 before leaving Priestfield. His career after leaving Gillingham is uncertain.
