Description

Beckenham born wing half Jimmy Skinner played for West Ham Schools and represented the London Schools side of 1912-13. In 1913 the schoolboy star was chosen to play for England schoolboys. He played junior football for Beckenham in 1918 and joined Second Division Tottenham Hotspur in 1919, making his Football League debut against Clapton Orient that October. He made only 3 appearances as Tottenham were promoted that season and was largely a fringe player in their successful team of the early 1920’s. He had his first proper run in the team in the autumn of 1921 and made 32 appearances, scoring all 3 of his career goals, in the 1921-22 and 1922-23 seasons. But it was only in 1924-25 that he played in most of the fixtures, recording 38 appearances.

The following season was his last. Having played regularly until an FA Cup 5-0 thrashing of West Ham United in January 1926, he didn’t make a comeback until the final game of the season, which proved his 95th and last appearance for Tottenham, as he was forced to retire through injury.
