Description

Port Glasgow born inside forward (he played both inside right and inside left) Peter Robertson began his football career before the First World War with Port Glasgow Athletic and joined Morton in 1912. After the First World War he moved south to join Hartlepools United and when they joined the Third Division (North) in 1921 Robertson played in their inaugural League fixture in a win at Wrexham that August. A run of 9 goals in 9 matches between the end of December and early March saw Robertson finish as The Monkey Hangers’ top goalscorer with 12 strikes during the campaign, although he lost his place the following December and only once more for Hartlepools before joining Doncaster Rovers in the summer of 1923 after 18 goals in 38 appearances for them. He had a single season at Belle Vue but again lost his place at the start of December, and made only one further appearance for Rovers in a defeat at Tranmere Rovers the following April before leaving the club after 4 goals in 16 appearances, and emigrating to Australia, where he played for Semaphore before his retirement.
