Description

Alexandria, Dunbartonshire born centre forward Jimmy Robertson began his career with Vale of Leven in 1903 and had a spell in Irish League football with Distillery in 1904, from where he joined First Division Blackburn Rovers, making his Football League debut at Sunderland in October 1905. He had 3 seasons at Ewood Park scoring 22 goals in 85 appearances before moving to Southern League Brighton & Hove Albion in 1908, where he stayed a single season before returning to Vale of Leven in 1909. In February 1911 he joined Falkirk, scoring twice on his debut against Clyde, and he was their leading goalscorer over each of the next four seasons, scoring over 100 goals in all competitions for the club over the next 8 years and scoring the opening goal when Falkirk beat Raith Rovers 2-0 to win the 1913 Scottish Cup Final on their first appearance in the Final.

He played for the Home Scots against the Anglo Scots in a Scottish International trial match at Glasgow on 18th March 1913 but never received a full international cap for Scotland.

During the First World War he played football in between service in the Army with the Highland Light Infantry, when he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal, the Military Medal & the Croix de Guerre for his exploits on the Western Front. During the War he also played for Dunfermline Athletic and Armadale in 1915 and Vale of Leven in 1918 before leaving Falkirk in 1919 after 77 goals in 171 Scottish League and Cup appearances. He finished his career with spells at Dumbarton Harp and Dumbarton, joining them in 1919 and 1921 respectively.
