Description

Buckhaven, Fife born right back David Raitt began his football career prior to the First World War in local junior football, playing for Buckhaven Victoria in 1913 and Buckhaven Thistle in 1914, and he came to prominence playing in Army football during his War service. Signing for Scottish First Division club Dundee in 1919, his performances soon attracted the English club scouts and First Division club Everton signed him in May 1922.

He made his Football League debut at Tottenham Hotspur in September 1922 and played 38 matches that season as Everton finished fifth in the League Championship. However that was to be his best season of six at Godson Park, where for the next four seasons he featured in around half of their matches each season. In his final season he played only 6 matches as Everton won the 1927-28 League Championship.

In total he made 131 appearances for Everton, before a move to Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 1928, which yielded a mere 4 matches for Rovers, the first two of which came against his former team mates at Everton in October 1928 and February 1929. In the summer of 1929 he returned to Scotland with Forfar Athletic, his final club before his eventual retirement.
