Mhow, Madhaya Pradesh, India born inside left Johnny Price began his football career in army football with The Coldstream Guards and The 10th Royal Hussars in the mid 1920’s, and first played for Isthmian League club Woking in 1926. Initially an amateur, he joined Third Division South club Brentford from Woking in 1928, scoring on his Football League debut in a 3-1 victory over Norwich City on Good Friday 1928, his only first team appearance for The Bees.

While still playing for Woking, Price made his international debut for England Amateurs in a 1-1 draw with Ireland at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool in November 1927 and scored on his second cap in a 2-1 victory over Wales at Ninian Park, Cardiff in March 1928, scoring again in a 3-2 defeat to Scotland at Hampden Park, Glasgow in front of 30,000 spectators in April 1928. Price was then included in the Football Association XI for a tour of South Africa and Rhodesia the same summer.

Described as “A speedy forward with good ball control, Price has a fine shot and scores many goals”, Price was then signed by Third Division (South) club Fulham during the 1928 close season, turning professional, scoring on his debut for The Cottagers in a 2-2 draw at Gillingham the same August, and bagging a hat-trick in his eighth match, a 6-2 win at Watford at the end of the following month. His debut season produced a career best return of 14 goals and he managed double figures the following season, then playing 31 matches in 1931-32 as Fulham won the Third Division (South) Championship to earn promotion to the Second Division. Price continued as a regular in Fulham’s next three Second Division campaigns before losing his place in January 1935, spending his final two seasons at Craven Cottage lastly on the fringes of first team action.

After making 204 appearances and scoring 53 goals for Fulham, Price joined Third Division (North) club Port Vale in May 1937 and scored twice in 14  appearances during the first half of the 1937-38 season. In November 1937, Price had his contract at The Old Recreation Ground cancelled by mutual consent, as he wished to travel south to work as a coach with Wimbledon. He later became the coach of Yiewsley, before his appointment as assistant secretary of Fulham.
