The Portsmouth team photographed in 1934-35.
This was an incredibly settled side having gone to the FA Cup Final in 1934 and only losing with 2 late goals to Manchester City. Of the 11 in the photograph, Sep Rutherford played the least but still managed 27 out of the 42 games played, and seven of the team missed 3 games or less throughout the season… The only real change to the team from the previous season was the sale of Jimmy Allen to Aston Villa being replaced by Bob Salmond, who played 40 matches in 1934-35 against 3 in the previous season when Allen was first choice.
