Caverswall, Staffordshire born forward Harry Phillips played junior football for Sandford Hill in 1898 from where he was signed by Second Division club Lincoln City in 1899, making his Football League debut against Middlesbrough in September 1899.scoring in a 3-0 win, the first of two appearances for The Imps in their 1899-1900 campaign, before returning to non league football with Northern League club Stockton, where he played for three further seasons.

He returned to Football League action with Grimsby Town in 1903 coming into their first eleven for 6 matches in April 1904, but wasn’t guaranteed a regular berth in the first eleven, despite scoring 8 goals in 23 matches for The Mariners. In 1905 he moved to Southern League club New Brompton (now Gillingham), where he scored once in 17 matches, his last recorded club before his eventual retirement.
