Stratford, London born centre forward Bert Pearce began his football career began his football career with Wanstead in 1908, playing for Ilford in 1909 and Leytonstone in 1910, from where he signed for Second Division club Fulham in 1911, making his Football League debut at Bristol City that September. Pearce scored 22 goals in his debut season, finishing as Fulham’s top goalscorer, a total that included hat-tricks against Leeds City and Leicester Fosse.

Described as “one of the most effective men in that position [centre forward] in the Second Division”, Pearce was a regular for two further seasons with The Cottagers but played only 8 matches in their 1914-15 campaign, the final season before the onset of the First World War forced the suspension of peacetime football, by when Pearce had scored 50 goals in 97 matches for Fulham, and he didn’t resume his career after the War.
