Description
Seaham, County Durham born full back (he played both sides) Joe Osmond played local junior football with Sunderland West End after the First World War before joining Second Division club Clapton Orient in 1919, making his Football League debut at Port Vale that November, his only appearance of the season. He became a first team regular from February 1921, and played 29 times in 1921-22, but he lost his place having played twice in August 1922, probably through injury, and never played for the club again.
His four seasons in East London yielded a total of 52 appearances, before a move back to the North East with Hartlepools United in 1924. He only played once for their first team however, in a 1-1 draw at home to Lincoln City in November 1924, before retiring from professional football.
