Methil, Fife born outside right Peter Neil began his football career with Cambuslang Rangers and joined Scottish League club East Fife in July 1920, from where he was signed by First Division club Birmingham in April 1921, making his Football League debut in a 1-1 draw with Everton at St Andrews that September. He made four more appearances for The Blues before the 1921 year end, on each occasion deputising for Bill Harvey, before returning to Scottish League football signing for Heart of Midlothian in May 1922.
Neil made his competitive debut for Hearts in a 1-1 draw with Clyde at Shawfield that August, but featured in just 8 matches, being sent off in one of them, his final appearance coming in a Scottish Cup tie at Bo’ness the following January, and it was to Bo’ness that he was moved on by Hearts in March 1923. He then joined Alloa Athletic in December 1923, which proved his final known club before leaving professional football.
