New Washington, County Durham born wing half Tom Neal played for Usworth Colliery in 1930 before joining First Division Leeds United, for whom he made his Football League debut against Burnley in April 1932. A fringe player throughout his 5 seasons at Elland Road, he made 23 appearances before joining Hull City in the 1936 close season, but never made the Hull first eleven, leaving professional football in 1937.

In this photograph he is pictured wearing a suit standing next to Wilf Copping, as he was clearly the non playing reserve for the day.
