Handsworth, Birmingham born inside left Jim Moore played junior football for Quebec Albion in 1909, joining Cradley Heath in 1910, from where he signed for Second Division Glossop in May 1911, making his Football League debut against Barnsley that September and scoring his first goal at Bradford Park Avenue a week later in a 1-1 draw. He was the club’s leading goalscorer in both the 1911-12 and 1912-13 seasons. He transferred to First Division Derby County in October 1913 for £1500 after 37 goals in 70 appearances for Glossop, scoring on his debut in a 3-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday, but despite 11 goals that season for Derby he couldn’t prevent their relegation. However his 22 goals in 1914-15, which again saw him at the club’s leading goalscorer, fired them to the Second Division Championship and promotion in the last season before football’s suspension due to World War One.

He played both sides of the War for Derby County, and was selected for England’s end of season tour of Sweden in May 1923, already aged 34, scoring in a 4-2 win over the hosts in what would prove his only cap for his country. His record at Derby County was 82 goals in 218 games but he lost his place in 1925 and soon after his first two appearances of the 1925-26 season, which included his final Rams goal at Southampton in February 1926, he transferred to Chesterfield in March 1926, scoring 21 goals in 44 appearances at Saltergate through to the end of 1926-27 including 2 hat-tricks against Barrow and Durham City, before joining Midland League Mansfield Town in 1927 and moving to Worcester City a year later.

In the photograph he shakes hands with Sheffield Wednesday’s George Wilson in September 1922.
