Dumbarton born outside left John McCulloch began his senior football career with Scottish First Division club Clyde in 1932, playing five years for The Bully Wee. In 1937 he signed for Motherwell, where he scored 18 goals in 70 matches before his career was severely interrupted by the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939. After the War’s end he was still fit enough to join hometown club Dumbarton for their first peacetime campaign and he played 11 matches, scoring once for The Sons in the autumn of 1946 before his retirement.
