Castleford, Yorkshire born centre forward Lester Marshall began his football career with Rowntree’s after the First World War, and played for Selby Town in 1922 before joining Midland League club York City in 1923, where after a season at Bootham Crescent he signed for Third Division (North) club Lincoln City in 1924, making his Football League debut at Ashington in January 1925, scoring in a 2-1 defeat. He lost his place in the side in April and was a fringe player at Sincil Bank for two further seasons, scoring 6 goals in 19 matches for The Imps, before returning to Midland League football initially with Scarborough in 1927 and then again with York City in 1928, his final recorded club before his retirement.
