Description

Evenwood, County Durham born right half Edmund “Ben” Lowson began his football career with Cockfield Swifts prior to the First World War and after the War he joined Crook Town in 1919, playing for Spennymoor United in 1921. While there he had a trial with Nottingham Forest in October 1921 before signing for Second Division club Blackpool in January 1922, making his Football League debut at Stoke that April. A fringe player at Blackpool, he made 5 appearances for The Seasiders before a move to Doncaster Rovers in June 1923, where he played 18 matches during 1923-24 before moving on again to Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in June 1924.

He didm’t get into The Cherries’ first team with any regularity during his two seasons at Bournemouth, making just 5 appearances before a move to non league Poole in 1926, but he returned to Football League action back in the north east with Durham City in August 1927, where he was an ever present, playing 44 matches, as Durham failed in their bid for re-election at the end of the season. Lowson moved to Halifax Town in May 1928, and missed only one match in their 1928-29 campaign, but possibly through injury his career came to a halt in December 1929 after 61 matches for The Shaymen.
