Cadder, Dunbartonshire born wing half John “Jock” Leighton began his football career with Newton Thistle in 1894, before joining Hibernian in 1895. After a year with the Edinburgh club during which he made a single appearance for the first team in a home defeat to St Bernard’s at the end of November 1895, he moved south to join Second Division Leicester Fosse in the 1896 close season, making his Football League debut against Darwen that September. He made 14 appearances for The Fossils that season before leaving Leicester, the rest of his career is unknown.
