Burton-on-Trent born left half George Kinsey started his football career with junior clubs Barton FC in 1882, Burton Crusaders in 1883, Burton Swifts in 1885 and Birmingham St George’s in 1890,

In July 1891 he moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he made his Football League debut at Sunderland that September. He scored 3 goals in 83 appearances for Wolves over the next 3 seasons, and took part in the 1893 FA Cup Final, when Wolves triumphantly beat Everton at Fallowfield in Manchester, the only time the Final was played there. He won his first two England caps while at Wolves, being selected first when England beat Wales 2-0 at Wrexham in March 1892, and again a year later when England beat Scotland 5-2 at Richmond in April 1893.

He signed for Aston Villa in July 1894 but played only 3 times in Villa’s 1894-95 season before moving to Derby County in July 1895. He was an ever present for Derby in 1895-96, as they finished runners up in the League and made the FA Cup semi final, losing to Wolves, and he won 2 more caps for England in March 1896 against Ireland and Wales, the latter being a 9-1 victory in Cardiff, but he lost his place in the Derby team the following season and joined Notts County in March 1897 after 41 appearances for The Rams.

He made only 4 appearances for Notts County in the remainder of  1896-97, before joining Bristol Eastville Rovers that summer. He played in the Western League, Birmingham & District League and Southern League for Rovers, who were renamed Bristol Rovers at the end of his first year with the club, and he made five appearances in the latter competition.

He returned to his home town to end his career, firstly re-joining by now Second Division Burton Swifts in 1900, scoring once in 8 appearances, and later moving on to non league Gresley Rovers in 1902 and Burton Early Closing in 1903 before his retirement.
