Tyldesley, Wigan, Lancashire born inside forward Peter Kelly played junior football for Tyldesley Celtic in 1920 and joined Chorley in 1921, before entering the Football League with New Brighton signing for them in August 1924. He made his Football League debut against Bradford Park Avenue that August scoring 14 times in his debut season and was signed by First Division Notts County in February 1926 after 22 goals in 61 appearances on The Wirral.

At Meadow Lane he couldn’t prevent their relegation come the season end and played two further seasons in the Second Division for the Magpies, before returning to New Brighton in October 1929 after 19 goals in 70 appearances.
