Birmingham born centre or left half Tommy Jones began his football career after the end of the First World War with Birmingham St George’s, playing for Oakengates Town from 1921. He was signed by First Division club Aston Villa in 1924, making his Football League debut against Arsenal in April 1925, playing twice more before the season end. He then played twice more that September in 2-2 draws with Leeds United and Manchester United before a transfer to Burnley in 1926, spending 1926-27 at Turf Moor without making The Clarets’ first eleven. His career after Burnley is uncertain.
