Description

Towyn, Denbighshire born goalkeeper Ormond Jones began his football career with Wednesbury Town in 1927 and spent 1928-29 on the books at Stoke City, without making a first team appearance. He played for Towyn in 1929 but returned to Midlands non league football with Bilston United in 1930 before rejoining Wednesbury Town in 1931. He again had League club experience in 1932 on the books of Blackpool from where he joined Southern League club Yeovil & Petters United, from where he was signed by Second Division Port Vale in the summer of 1933.

He made his Football League debut at Fulham that August, and played the first 11 fixtures of the season before losing his place in October, making 3 more appearances for Vale in December before again losing the gloves. He moved to Norwich City in June 1934 but managed only 10 appearances for The Canaries before being signed by Watford in February 1935.

He didn’t make the Watford first eleven until February 1936 however, when he played 8 times for The Hornets, winning 6 of them. He then signed for Mansfield Town in July 1936, but after 14 appearances he returned to Norwich City in September 1937, without making any further first team appearances for them. He then moved to Scotland to join Queen of the South in July 1938, but soon returned joining non league Yarmouth Town that October. During the Second World War, which effectively ended his career, he made a single appearance for Mansfield Town as a wartime guest.
